Ginny speaks and sings at the opening of Alunis Baptist Church in Romania. This village church was built in partnership with Faith Baptist Church in Swansea, SC.
Laity Alive and Serving was started by my parents in 1985. It was dedicated to helping all the Harry Dents in the pews who don’t understand God’s big picture and all the Betty Dents with good intentions who don’t know the Bible well enough to make use of its unending resources. The motto of their ministry came from a plaque I had laid under my dad’s pillow (where I used to leave things I hoped he would read). It read, “The Purpose of Life is to Serve God.”
To date Laity has helped to train and put 50 pastors into churches in Romania. After my father’s death in September of 2007, I returned to the country that my father loved. I spoke and sang in many of the churches Laity helped to start. My trip, however, only showed me there is more to be done. There are still villages needing an evangelical witness. Romania has become a strong ally of our country. They are also one of the leading countries in Europe in the number of evangelicals with potential to influence the darkness in Europe. After my visit to Romania, I decided to keep the ministry open. However, in honor of my husband’s burden for the Deaf community, Laity will also extend its ministry to the Deaf.
