Dr. Robert Elliott will be remembered as a dedicated doctor whose life and discoveries have made an impact in the field of medicine. As an MD surgical oncologist and a research scientist, he treated many cancer patients and also invented cancer vaccines for those patients. Affectionately called “Dr. Bob” by his many patients, he served cancer patients for over 50 years. He was still working full-time treating patients and doing research up until his passing at age 84.
A Resume a Mile Long
To me, Dr. Elliott was the wise oncologist who wrote the commentary in my book “Unleash Your God-Given Healing.” I was amazed that he was able to take the time to do this. When he sent me his resume, it was 76 pages long and filled with publications in journals, inventions and patents, and places he’s presented his ideas and research in this world.
His notable accomplishments:
In 1963, he was part of the surgical team that performed the first lung transplant.
He served in the military for 13 years as a doctor.
He treated cancer patients for over 50 years.
He invented both breast and prostate cancer vaccines that boost a person’s own immune system to fight off cancer recurrence.
He lectured at The National Cancer Institute, Norway’s Radium Hospital, and many other places and medical conventions throughout the world.
He received the “National Medical Researcher of the Year Award” in 2011.
He invented new cancer drugs that could pass through the blood-brain barrier.
His pioneer research in mitochondrial function laid the foundation for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. He developed a therapy called mitochondria organelle transplant for ALS, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s patients.
He established a research foundation named after one of his patients called “The Sallie Astor Burdine Breast Cancer Foundation.”
He taught at Tulane Medical University as an adjunct professor of medicine, surgery, and biochemistry.
His medical degree combined with a PHD in science proved to be a powerful and driving force behind his continual quest to research and invent. He considered cancer an enemy to be eradicated. Many patients left messages of condolences to his family with these descriptive words, “true man of God,” “God sent doctor,” “compassionate,” “knowledgeable,” “one of the greatest oncologists and scientists in the field,” “medical legend,” and “his passion for a cure for breast cancer touched many lives.” Many will miss him, but others will carry on the research he laid the foundation for.
Next week, we’ll look at some of the key information he taught me on cancer that most people don’t know.
For Your Health
And in Memory of Dr. Robert Elliott,
