These past two years have been rough for everyone. As we begin another New Year, COVID is still hovering over us with variants worldwide. Where will the next variant break out? When will this pandemic end? When will life return to normal? The answer to these questions are unknown, but God gives us the key to His blessings and prosperity in Joshua 1:8 (NIV):
Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
Many Americans and people all over the world make New Year’s resolutions; yet few achieve their goals. Why? It’s the discipline to follow through that we often lack.
This verse in Joshua challenges us to consume God’s Word each and every day. We are also to meditate on His word day and night. As we continue to hear discouraging information on the news, frame it in the context of God’s Word. What is His perspective on what is going on around us—COVID, civil unrest, tornadoes, and a lack of peace in this world? I believe God is calling our attention to Himself in these challenging days.
Lip service is not enough. You’ve heard the old saying, “Let your walk be more than your talk.” Lip service is clearly nothing without living out His Kingdom in our lives. We must carry out His Word in our lives as we live each day. This takes daily discipline. When we do this, we are promised His blessing even when the world around us appears to be unraveling at the seams.
Let’s use our self-discipline to keep His Words on our lips and minds as we enter this New Year. When we walk His walk as much as we talk His Word, we “will be prosperous and successful.” As God promised Abraham that He would bless the world in his day, may we enter this New Year and be “blessed to be a blessing” to others during these troubled times.

God has blessed this nation
He has touched us with His hand
The promise of His faithfulness
Can be seen across the land
Our church bells ring in freedom
We can worship as we please
And work to achieve our greatest dreams
In security and peace
Our fields are full at harvest
The rains have always come
Our table is a banquet
Our silos overrun
And I know there is a reason
Why God has blessed us all so much
There is something He’s expecting
From every one of us
We’ve been blessed to be a blessing
We’ve been loved to give His love
Made mighty so we can fulfill His call
We’ve been blessed to be a blessing
With enough to give enough
For the greatest in His kingdom
Is the servant of us all
And down throughout the ages
From Abraham to Paul
The commission has been handed to
The ones His grace has called
That God will bless the nations
Every tribe and every tongue
‘Til all creation witnesses
The glory of His Son
O hear, O hear God’s people
Who honor Jesus’ name
We must obey this sacred call
For His blessing to remain
Oh, what will be your answer
Will it be Lord, here am I
To this Your great commission
I gladly give my life
We’ve been blessed to be a blessing
We’ve been loved to give His love
Made mighty so we can fulfill the call
We’ve been blessed to be a blessing
With enough to give enough
For the greatest in His kingdom
Is the servant of us
Blessed to be a blessing
We’ve been loved to give His love
Made mighty so we can fulfill His call
We’ve been blessed to be a blessing
With enough to give enough
For the greatest in His kingdom
Is the servant of us all
What an inspirational thought to begin this New Year on. May we be blessed as we live out His Word and be a blessing to others. Abraham’s descendants would number as many as the stars in the sky. May we shine like stars even in this darkness during 2022!
So you may have a blessed New Year!
