The Top Anti-Inflammatory Foods and Herbs

June 2, 2020

I know it’s discouraging to realize that many of the foods we eat in this culture are inflammatory. So here is some encouragement. There are some delicious foods and herbs that are anti-inflammatory. And for those of you who love my Banana Chocolate Blueberry Smoothie, you’ll recognize some of the ingredients.

The top anti-inflammatory foods are:

Lemons, limes, and *berries

*Avocados

Green Tea

*Green vegetables such as kale, spinach, arugula, etc.

Wild caught fish and grass-fed meat and poultry

Apple cider vinegar

Organic extra virgin olive oil and *coconut oil

Fermented vegetables

*Bone Broth

Onions, garlic and chives

*Ingredients in my Banana Chocolate Blueberry Smoothie

The top anti-inflammatory herbs are:

Ginger – Ginger is a powerful anti-inflammatory herb used as a natural remedy for nearly 5000 years. Gingerol is its active compound that reduces inflammation.

Turmeric – The main active compound in turmeric is curcumin, a powerful antioxidant that has the ability to reduce pain and lower inflammation. Just Google this spice, and you’ll see all the research—amazing!

Frankincense – This is a potent herbal extract that is derived from the Boswellia tree. It may be beneficial in lowering inflammation and inhibiting the growth of cancer. There are numerous research articles on the benefits of frankincense.

**Ginger, turmeric and frankincense work synergistically to support healthy inflammatory response and modulate cytokines, which help regulate the immune response.

Rosemary – This herb is a rich source of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds. It provides benefits for rheumatoid arthritis patients. I used it in my shampoo to stimulate hair growth.

Cumin – Cumin contains antioxidants that stabilize free radicals, the lone electrons that cause inflammation and DNA damage. I made Mexican Chicken Soup tonight loaded with freshly ground cumin. Free radicals be gone!

Lowering inflammation in our bodies can reduce our risk for cancer and many other chronic diseases. The less inflammation, the better—unless your body is using temporary inflammation to heal an area as it did my arm a few weeks ago. Isn’t it amazing how God designed our body to heal and repair itself? Eating these top inflammatory foods only enhances our health and self-healing mechanisms.

What anti-inflammatory foods have you found that lower inflammation in your body?

Next week, I’ll reveal the latest results of my recent Bone Density Scan.
