Today’s message will point you to a video interview I did recently with my friend, Annette Reeder, The Biblical Nutritionist. In this interview, we discuss how you can choose the best cancer treatments for yourself. As a cancer patient, you are the driver in making decisions and doing the research. After much prayer and research, it’s important that you feel a peace about what you choose to do. Here are the tips for choosing the best cancer treatments for you.
If you’ve just been diagnosed with cancer, how do you choose between conventional, integrative, and holistic cancer treatments? These represent different approaches to addressing cancer. It’s important to note that these approaches can sometimes overlap, and the choice of treatment may vary based on individual preferences, medical conditions, and the specific type and stage of cancer.
Conventional Cancer Treatment: Conventional cancer treatments are widely accepted by the medical community and are considered mainstream. The main conventional cancer treatments include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapy.
Integrative Cancer Treatment: Integrative cancer treatment combines conventional medical treatments with complementary therapies emphasizing a holistic approach to healthcare. This approach is more patient-centered and may be administered by an integrative medical doctor or an integrative cancer treatment center such as Cancer Treatment Centers of America or City of Hope which recently bought them out. This approach uses research-based holistic therapies alongside conventional treatments and can include high-quality supplements, herbs, spices, vitamin C infusions, lifestyle and diet changes, acupuncture, sauna, etc., and recommendations from well-trained naturopathic doctors who specialize in cancer.
Holistic Cancer Treatment: Whole-Person Approach: Holistic cancer treatment considers the entire person—mind, body, and spirit—in the context of their environment. Holistic treatments may also include lifestyle changes, dietary modifications, stress reduction techniques, and alternative therapies such as plant extracts, hyperbaric oxygen, low-dose chemotherapy, light therapy, and detoxification. It’s important for individuals facing cancer to consult with their healthcare team and consider various treatment options.
The choice of treatment should be based on the type and stage of cancer, individual health factors, and personal preferences. Some individuals may prefer a purely conventional approach, while others may find benefit in combining conventional treatments with complementary or holistic therapies. It’s important to discuss any integrative or holistic approaches with your healthcare team to ensure they do not interfere with conventional treatments. For example, B vitamins are known to interfere with some chemotherapy agents. If your oncologist tells you this is an issue, you can wait until after chemotherapy to use B vitamins. Prayer is also an important part of the decision-making process. Ask God to provide healing and guidance. It’s important that you feel a peace about your cancer treatments.
