Resveratrol is a naturally occurring polyphenol found in plants. These polyphenols play an important role in defending plants against harmful stressors. When a plant is exposed to challengers, resveratrol/polyphenols defend the plant and promote its ability to restore. When we eat plants containing polyphenols, these protective and health-boosting effects are passed to us. Supplying our body with resveratrol helps us to restore our body.
The following are the restoring health benefits of resveratrol:
Reducing inflammation. Chronic inflammation is linked to almost every disease in our culture and is a an underlying factor that makes COVID-19 symptoms worse, but resveratrol has the ability to fight oxidative stress and the inflammation that comes with it. As a potent antioxidant, it neutralizes free radicals. As an impressive anti-inflammatory, it reduces inflammation and blocks inflammatory pathways.
Protecting your brain. Resveratrol’s antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects also protect your brain against neurodegeneration and boosts your brain health. It’s also been found to inhibit the accumulation of protein fragments around brain cells that can cause neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s.
Enhancing heart health. Resveratrol helps lower blood pressure, decreases total cholesterol while increasing HDL, and promotes weight loss while slowing aging. And might I add, it does all three of these without side effects!
Fighting cancer. According to research, resveratrol may be able to fight against cancer by interfering with the cancer’s ability to spread and replicate, https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18586690/ inhibiting their ability to reproduce, and by blocking certain hormones that promote hormone-dependent cancers. Wish I had known this before as I had a hormone-driven cancer.
Increasing Longevity. We can’t stop the aging process, but we can slow it down. We’ve already discussed “autophagy” on this blog, but resveratrol may possess life-prolonging and health-benefitting properties, some of which may resemble the effect of caloric restriction. Yes, this miracle compound might increase your years on this earth!
Modulating and stimulating our immune system. Resveratrol regulates immunity by interfering with immune cell regulation, pro-inflammatory cytokines’ synthesis, and gene expression. At low doses, it stimulates our immune system. And we need this more than ever!
Does it amaze you that this polyphenol has so many amazing benefits? These six benefits go a long way to restoring our health. Never underestimate the restoring power of the plants God has given us in nature. They were made for our healing.
