It’s been nearly two years since this pandemic began. No one knows when it will end. As the variants continue to arise, it appears they are less deadly. In addition, cancer rates are soaring and autoimmune diseases now number at over 100 different conditions. There’s never been a better time to enhance your immune system and improve your health. Here are three simple steps to a healthier New Year.
Eat more plants.
There’s no better way to enhance your immune system than to nourish your body and gut with the plants God provided in Genesis for Adam and Eve. These include fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds, herbs and spices, and beans and legumes. Unfortunately, most Americans only eat 2-3 of these God-given gifts each day.
As you increase the number of plants you consume daily, you nourish your body and immune system with more phytochemicals and antioxidants which fight diseases and cancer, more fiber to regulate your digestive system and feed your good gut bacteria, and much-needed vitamins and minerals which our body needs to work properly. Every plant God created has cancer-fighting power and builds our immune system to fight cases of flu and viruses. Our gut is where 70 to 80 percent of our immune system is located.
Move each day.
Our bodies were made to sleep at night, but move during the day. Movement is key to healthy living. It enhances every system in our body including our lymphatic system. This system is a part of our immune system and it only works properly when we move. Think of your lymphatic system as your trash disposal system. The sedentary lifestyle is contributing to many diseases today including cancer. Even with COVID still around, find a way to move your body through walking, swimming, riding a bike, dancing, etc. each day.
Lessen your toxins and plastics exposure.
We live in a toxic world. When your toxic bucket becomes overloaded, your immune system can become distracted and suppressed. Toxins enter our bodies through the foods we eat, the water and fluids we drink, the air we breathe, and through what we put on our skin. High levels of toxins were found in my body after my cancer diagnosis and were definitely a major cause of my cancer. We’re not aiming for perfection here. Our goal is to lessen these toxins so our immune system can work as God intended.
It’s our responsibility to care for our bodies. With cancer rates, heart disease, autoimmune diseases, and Alzheimer’s disease on the rise, and COVID still hovering over us, there’s never been a better time to put these simple steps in place. We all need to make changes that will enhance our immune systems in this New Year. Last week, this blog drew our attention to one overall spiritual goal for 2022—to meditate on and live out God’s Word in our lives. But at such a time as this, we also need to add some secondary health goals. When we have a healthy immune system and gut, we will fare better against any flu, virus, or disease.
What health goals are you implementing this New Year? Next week, we’ll look at unexpected ways plastics are getting into our bodies.
