Six Tips to Protect Your Health from Cell Phone Radiation

April 21, 2025

EMFs or electromagnetic fields may have more of an impact on our bodies than we previously realized. I discuss this in a previous video which will be referenced below. After hearing scientists and doctors testify about the impact of EMFs on our health, I began to pay attention. However, it took me several years to put a prevention plan in place. And I started with my cell phone.

There were two wake-up calls related to my use of cell phones that motivated me to make some productive changes. The first motivator was when I saw a medical doctor flash up on a large screen, an MRI of a man’s head after a 15-minute cell phone conversation. The entire side of his head was inflamed. Some doctors use a thermogram to show the same thing with an infrared camera.

What was even worse was when another doctor showed an MRI of a young child’s brain after just a 15-minute cell phone call. The inflammation on the screen was much worse than the MRI of an adult extending much further into the child’s brain. Why? Because a child’s brain has softer tissue which means the impact on a child is more than an adult. It’s widely known that chronic inflammation over time can cause DNA damage and lead to cancer. It’s not the one-time or occasional phone call that we should be concerned about. It’s the constant bombardment over time that puts us at risk.

No one is more adamant about the dangers of cell phone radiation than Dr. Devra Davis, an epidemiologist and Founding Director of the Center of Environmental Oncology. Dr. Davis has more than 200 publications and currently lectures at Harvard University. If her name sounds familiar, it’s because she was one of the first scientists to recognize the dangers of secondhand smoke and recommend that smoking not be allowed in public places.

How many of you remember the days when smoking was allowed on buses, trains, planes, and public places? I remember. But it was allowed because no one knew that secondhand smoke could damage the bystander’s health. Today, we know differently, and laws are in place to protect our citizens from the damaging effects of secondhand smoke.

When Dr. Davis was first approached about the dangers of EMFs, she dismissed the questions as ridiculous. But as she explored the research, she began to see similarities in stages to her research about secondhand smoke and admitted she was wrong, Dr. Davis now lectures around the world on EMFs and warns that with six billion cell phones in use today, these issues must be addressed. Some countries such as Canada and Belgium are developing regulations to address these issues. In addition in 2011, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) declared cell phones a Class B carcinogen.

Dr. Davis’s research compels us to learn more about the physical effects caused by this form of radiation, Her greatest concern is EMFs’ impact on young children. As we’ve already established, the younger the child, the more radiation is absorbed because their skulls are softer than those of adults and their brains contain more fluid. She also believes that cell phone radiation produces free radicals that weaken DNA, the blood-brain barrier, and cell membranes.

A study done by the Cleveland Clinic in 2008 indicated that men who carry cell phones tend to have lower sperm counts. To quote from the study, “Results suggest that the use of cell phones by men is associated with a decrease in semen quality.  The decrease in sperm counts, motility, viability, and normal morphology is related to the duration of exposure to cell phones. More studies are needed to identify the mechanism involved in the reduction of semen’s quality.”

According to multiple studies, frequent cell phone usage can negatively impact semen quality, potentially leading to decreased sperm count, motility, viability, and morphology, suggesting a potential link between excessive cell phone use and male infertility.  A systematic review followed by a meta-analysis in June 2014 concluded that pooled results from in vitro and in vivo studies suggest that mobile phone exposure negatively affects sperm quality. Due to the proximity to reproductive organs, keeping the phone in a trouser pocket, near the testicles is particularly concerning.

So ladies warn your husbands, and clearly, more research needs to be done. But women are not off the hook. When you consider that a woman’s breast is mostly fat and body fluids, and cell phones are a two-way microwave radiation that penetrates fats and fluids easily, we must also be cautious. There are now reports of women who repeatedly store their cell phones in their bras for many years developing tumors right below where they stored their phone.

Dr. Lisa Bailey, a breast cancer surgeon and former president of the California division of the American Cancer Society, warns, “We have seen some very unusual breast cancers in both young women with no risk factors, and postmenopausal women who have carried their cell phones close to or in their bras. So a microwave signal close to the body might have an effect on your breast tissue.”

Dr. Bailey directs us to the fine print that comes with your cell phone.

Key points from cell phone fine print warnings:

  • RF Radiation Exposure:

“To reduce exposure to RF energy, use a headset or speakerphone when making calls, or keep the phone at a distance from your body.”

  • Body Contact Warning:

“Do not place the phone directly against your body for extended periods.”

  • Proper Accessory Usage:

“When using a carrying case, belt clip, or holster, ensure it does not contain metallic components and maintains a safe distance from your body.”

  • Sensitive Individuals:

“If you have a medical condition that could be affected by electromagnetic fields, consult your healthcare provider before using this device.”

  • Explosive Environments:

“Turn off your phone in areas with potentially explosive atmospheres, such as gas stations.”

Carry iPhone at least 10 mm away from your body to ensure exposure levels remain at or below tested levels.

This lesson was made all too clear to me when a friend of mine was diagnosed with breast cancer. She had a known habit of carrying her cell phone in her bra for years. Her doctor told her that she had none of the normal drivers and he declared her cell phone as the likely cause of her cancer since her tumor was right below where she usually had her cell phone.

Dr. Andrew Goldsworthy of the Imperial College in London believes that the hormone glands are particularly sensitive to radiation. These are his words, “Although electromagnetic fields frequently stimulate glandular activity in the short term, long-term exposure is often harmful in that the gland ceases to work properly.”

I don’t know about you, but these warnings and alerts from many different doctors motivated me to make some changes in how I use my cell phone. So I want to share with you the changes I’ve made and they are heavily based on Dr. Devra Davis’s research and recommendations.

  1. Avoid carrying any cell phone on your body. Don’t put it in your bra or in your pocket. I now put mine in my pocketbook and I use a safe sleeve to protect my brain and body.

  1. Avoid holding any cell phone against your body when in use. When talking on the phone, use speakerphone instead of holding the phone right next to your head. If you have a more private conversation, then use the blocking device in the safe sleeve to protect your brain.

  1. Avoid using your cell phone when the signal is weak because additional radiation is emitted for the signal to reach the tower.

  1. Put your cell phone on “airplane mode” when it’s not in use or on your body. You can do this if you use your phone as an alarm clock but don’t want it emitting while you sleep.

  1. Avoid or limit using a phone in cars, trains, planes, or elevators as these magnify the radiation all around you.

  1. Keep cell phones away from you when sleeping and charging. The signals can interfere with the melatonin production in your body which is your immune builder and cancer fighter while you sleep. Your cell phone should be more than 6 feet away. I charge mine in the bathroom or another room while I am sleeping. Most people charge their cell phones while they are sleeping and right next to their bed. Not a good idea.

After today’s video, you’ll look at your cell phone and how you handle it differently. There’s no way any of us are going to give up this valuable piece of technology that allows us to communicate with others and organize our lives.

But we must be wise, we must be smarter and use them in a way that protects our body from too much radiation over time—especially our brain.

Have you ever wondered about the impact of cell phone radiation on our bodies?
